Austin's Live Music Scene: The Live Music Capital of the World
Sixth Street alone has more live music venues per block than anywhere on earth. From honky-tonk to psychedelic rock, Austin's 250+ live music venues play every night of the week — and most of them are free.
Austin's Sixth Street Entertainment District stretches six blocks and hosts over 90 live music venues in a single corridor. On any given Thursday night, you can walk from a country songwriter round at The Broken Spoke to a psychedelic rock show at Emo's to a blues jam at Antone's — all within a 15-minute walk. The city's music scene is so dense that the Austin City Council passed ordinances protecting live music venues from noise complaints, recognizing music as essential infrastructure.
